The Journey to Baldness

Mr. Clean and Dr. Evil have one. Vin Diesel has one and even Natalie Portman had one circa 2006. Now a member of our team, Pamela Jackson, has one.

So what ties all of these people together, you ask? A BALD HEAD!

I can hear it now, “Yeah, yeah, why should I care about that?! Mr. Clean’s not even a real person and Dr. Evil is really just Michael Myers, who isn’t bald.” While those may be true statements, I would like to look past all that for a second and focus on Pamela’s story.

Maybe you remember her as that GACC South employee with beautiful, flowing, waist-length hair. If so, you’re going to have to readjust your thoughts because this past Friday, Pamela shaved her head in solidarity with children everywhere who have cancer. She raised over $1000 to donate to the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, which supports childhood cancer research, and in stark contrast to Dr. Evil, she looks amazing with a shaved head (see before and after pictures below).

If you’d like to spend a moment getting to know Pamela and her mission, I invite you to watch this video. I spent the day on Friday following Pamela around with a video camera while playing the role of field reporter—this is what I have to show for it.

If you (or anyone else you know) have ever shaved your head for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, let us know! We’d love to hear your stories and we invite you to share them here.

  1. Dear Pamela,

YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL!! Both inside and out. What a wonderful thing to do. I know it took a lot of courage, a lot of love to make this decision and I think that the GACC is blessed to have such a caring person in their midst.

    Love you
    Heidi

  2. Thank you SO much for your kind words Heidi, I truly appreciate your support!

Much love to you and Michael,
    Pamela

  3. Hi,
my wife got her head shaved on March 4th! Just like you from long (and curly) to (almost) nothing at all. Since then it seems like the only Shirt she owens, is this T-Shirt they gave her :-)….. Her initial goal was USD 1000 as well but apparently she knows the right people because I am very proud of her raising over USD 11000 within a week for this cause.

This is displaying the right attitude everybody should take. Don’t complain – don’t be mad at other people not doing anything, but stand up for what you believe in and get to work!!!

    …….you ladies rock!

    • That’s GREAT! There was a little girl and her father at the same event we attended who raised over $12,000! Tell your wife she’s amazing for us🙂

    • Hi Thorsten!

Thank you for your comment! The people who take part in activities and causes such as this are people worth knowing–we should be so lucky to have a few in our lives! Congrats to your wife’s amazing accomplishment.

      Thanks again for stopping by!
