On Tuesday June 4, German company Schleich USA, Inc. opened a new 125,000 sq. ft. distribution facility in Charlotte, NC that will now serve as its new North American headquarters as well.
GACC South Consulting Director Silke Miehlke had the opportunity to visit the opening. Not only did she enjoy the factory tour and official ribbon cutting at the new facility, she also was surprised by visit from life-size childhood favorites the Smurfs.
The Smurfs provided entertainment and set the mood for an exciting grand opening. Now one of the largest toy manufactures in Germany, Schleich was founded 75 years ago in Schwäbisch Gmünd where it still has its current main headquarters. The U.S. is the second largest market for Schleich toys. You may even recognize some of your favorites – including figurines of Snoopy, the Smurfs, and the Muppet Show – in their collections.
Company representatives from both the U.S. and Germany were in attendance. While talking to company employees, Silke was impressed to hear that Schleich completed this big move within just a few weeks. Keeping the clients in mind, Schleich was adamant about having uninterrupted delivery services.
And it wasn’t just the adults that got to enjoy their favorite childhood figurines. Schleich also donated hundreds of their toys to local Levine Children’s hospital at their grand opening. Schleich USA, Inc. President Walter Haack commented, “We are excited to call Charlotte home to our North America operations.” Not only will the company create new jobs in the Charlotte area, but they will also create opportunities at the ports of Wilmington and Charleston where thousands of toys will be shipped.
We are excited to welcome Schleich to the Southeast and look forward to the positive impact they will have on our communities!
